A rainy night int he Three Tuns public house. We're hatching plans for the record label that will be Caitlin, trhashing out a whisky-sodden philosphy, shouting to make ourselves heard over the roar of a hundred beered-up navvies and the distant thrumming of some folksy crooner in the corner.
"Out of here?" I yawn to my compadre and partner in crime.
He nods. We've seen enough singer-songwriters in the folk clubs and open mic nights to last a lifetime. But then we realise that the words that float through the fug on Bossa Nova wings are in Spanish and a defiant glint in the singer's eye knives the smoke clouds like lightening, followed by thrundering silence as the beer-boy roar sinks to a reverent hush. The voice rings true - pure, demure, yet corrupted with a heated hint of Andalusian rasp.
We came. We saw. We were mad about this wide-eyed, muy guapa gamine with the steely gaze and bone-dry wit whose Spanish blood pulsed to a ossa Nova hertbeat and whose Irish blood gargled Guinness and picked fights.
And here's her first record, the very first on the Caitlin label.
